Description
The site called "Viguciallum" and the castle standing in the area of the "castrum" are documented as far back as 1011.
Over the centuries, many feudal lords ruled over the village, small but set in a strategic position on the left bank of the river Sesia, close to the border between the lands of Pavia and Novara.
The Sella castle stands on an alluvial terrace along the river Sesia, at the edge of town. Of the ancient 13th century buildings only the ruins of three towers and parts of the walls remain, still visible next to the Renaissance castle.
In the 19th century the castle became a possession of the powerful Sella family, who had it completely restored and converted into an aristocratic manor house.
Sadly, the once imposing residence is now in a state of neglect
